GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T
softball team is coming off of a season where it was young and without a true
pitcher. The Aggies are still young, but they have a year of experience behind them
and head coach Mamie Jones has added pitching.
The Aggies
start the season on Feb. 21 in a 1 p.m., doubleheader at Gardner-Webb. As the
season starts, the Aggies are predicted to finish tied for third with S.C.
State in the MEAC Southern Division by MEAC head coaches and sports information
directors. Last season the Aggies finished 7-35 overall and 1-11 in the MEAC
and failed to qualify for the MEAC Tournament.
Bethune-Cookman
was predicted to win the South, while Delaware State was predicted to take the
North along with the overall MEAC tournament title.
Junior
infielder Hope Fletcher, who had a batting average of .360 and fielding
percentage of .942 last season, was selected for the 2012
Preseason All-MEAC team. Sophomore outfielder Detavia Kenan, who hit .354 with
15 runs scored and a fielding percentage of .901, accompanied Fletcher on the
list.
