GREENSBORO, September 8, 2006 -- North Carolina A&T had several players play summer league baseball, and they did quite well. The following is a detail view on how those players faired. Player Pos./Class Summer League Team League Affiliate Charlie Gamble 3B/Senior Fayetteville Swamp Dogs Coastal Plain Skinny: Helped team to first place finishes in both halves of the season…Named to the All-Star Game as well as participated in the home run derby…Charlie hit .242 with six doubles and four home runs. Gamble is a two-time All-MEAC performer and led the MEAC in hits, doubles and RBI in 2006. Player Pos./Class Summer League Team League Affiliate Patrick Oates OF/Junior Wilmington Sharks Coastal Plain Skinny: Played first base for the Sharks and also pitched…During most of the season led the Sharks in hitting (.253), and was also the team leader in doubles with nine and home runs (6). Oates was a second-team All-MEAC performer. He had a career year in which he earned career highs in batting (.319), home runs (9), RBI (40) and hits (73). Player Pos./Class Summer League Team League Affiliate J.P. Primus P-IF/Junior Torrington Twisters New England Collegiate Skinny: Helped lead his team to the league championship series…Compiled 4-2 record with a 2.93 ERA while striking out 40 hitters and only walking 13…In the playoffs, he had one appearance and threw a complete-game shutout while striking out nine and walking one…Was also an All-Star, pitching three perfect innings in that appearance. Primus has a 13-9 record as an Aggie with a 3.88 ERA. He was a first-team All-MEAC performer in 2005. Player Pos./Class Summer League Team League Affiliate Nick Mayo SS/Jr. Florida Instructional Skinny: Worked with several professional (MLB scouts) instructors while also playing several games per week. Hit better than .300 in those games and was also perfect in base stealing…Was selected to the League’s All-Star Team as well. Mayo has been the Aggies lead-off hitter for the past two seasons. He is one of the best base stealers in the conference. Mayo has swiped 50 of the 62 bases he has attempted to steal. Player Pos./Class Summer League Team League Affiliate Phillip Brewington OF/Jr. Morganton Aggies Southern Collegiate Skinny: Brewington obviously likes being an Aggie…Helped lead the Morganton Aggies to their first ever SCBL championship, did so while playing second base as well as the outfield. Led the team in batting average (.377) and also had an on base percentage well over .400. Brewington had a career-year for the Aggies. He hit a career-best .276 and had a career-high eight doubles.
