Joel has been a valuable pinch-hitter for head coach Keith Shumate throughout his career…Over the last two seasons he has also worked his way into the starting lineup and has played 84 games with 42 starts…Battle is hitting an impressive .333 when called on to pinch-hit for the Aggies…He has saved the best for last with an impressive senior season that sees him batting .351 on the season…Has been a member of the MEAC ‘s All-Academic team for four years…He is a fitness and wellness management major and is the son of Ronnie and Birta Battle.
The impact our next two honorees have had on the N.C. A&T baseball program may not be able to be measured for years to come. There awards and national recognitions by baseball publications and organizations have earned the N.C. A&T baseball program the kind of national publicity money can’t buy. This duo also helped the Aggies earn their first-ever appearance in a NCAA regional when the team played at Clemson in 2005. To put it in perspective, the baseball team has scored 1,251 runs over the time these two young men have been a part of the program…Twenty-four percent, nearly a fourth of those runs have been driven in by either Charlie Gamble or Jeremy Jones.
Although he is a redshirt junior, Jeremy has decided to be honored along with the young men who were a part of his freshman class…He received a medical redshirt last season after sustaining an injury…Despite that, he was still drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the Major League Baseball Draft…Instead of starting his professional career, Jeremy decided to return to N.C. A&T to complete his degree and play another season with his Aggie teammates…Jeremy’s return meant adding another chapter to his impressive Aggie legacy…He has earned All-American notoriety from four different organization, including the National College Baseball Writers Association, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Louisville Slugger…He has been deemed a national player of the year candidate by the Brooks Wallace Watch List and CSTV.com…As a sophomore, he put together one of the best season’s in the history of the program when he batted .402 with 46 RBI, four home runs and 20 doubles on his way to winning MEAC Player of the Year honors…He helped the Aggies win the MEAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Regional, where he was named to the All-Regional team at the Clemson Regional…He was also named blackcollegebaseball.com Player of the Year as a sophomore…He was named N.C. A&T Male Freshman of the Year as well…He is a career .357 hitter with 15 home runs and 110 RBI…He has 44 career doubles and has scored 140 times…On top of all that he is a two-time All-MEAC Academic selection and a three-time N.C. A&T scholar athlete…He majors in sports science and is the son of John and Jackie Jones.
