Box Score 1 The Aggies totaled nine hits total on the day as they fell to 1-3 overall on the young season. Kory Kinnear led the way with a 2-for-3 day in the first game. UNC-Asheville transfer Tim Johnson was not shabby in his first start for the Aggies. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out six Bearcats in seven pitched plus innings, but the Aggies bullpen couldn’t contain its momentum from Friday’s game when it gave up just two hits over 3.2 innings as they allowed three runs in the eighth inning. Bearcats starting pitcher Dan Osterbrock gave up one run and struck out five. Brian Szarmach went 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI. The Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Szarmach drove a Johnson 2-1 pitch over the right-center field wall for a two-out, bases empty homerun. The Aggies responded in the bottom half of the second when Kinnear started a two-out rally by doubling to center. Kinnear scored on a fielding error by Josh Harrison to tie the game at 1. Johnson showed more promise for the Aggies pitching staff, which was a question mark coming into the season. The Aggies have received quality starts from John Primus, Chris Eggers and now Johnson. Johnson left the game to start the eighth after opening in the inning by walking Tony Campana. From there the Bearcats would take control of the game. Campana stole second to move into scoring position. Campana moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Michael Obyc. Harrison reached when Cyril Daniel hit him with a pitch. Harrison moved into scoring position with a stolen base, setting up Cameron Satterwhite’s sacrifice fly to score Campana. Szarmach’s single scored Harrison and scored on Adam Yeager’s double off of Jody Calloway. Billy Welsh came on to pitch two perfect innings to earn the save. Michael Hill earned the win in the second game by pitching six innings, striking out five and surrendering just two hits. Nick Rogers took the loss. The Aggies travel to Durham on Tuesday to play the Duke Blue Devils at 3 p.m. They return home on Wednesday to face Appalachian State at 3 p.m. |
