Nick Mayo continued to swing a hot bat and Chris Eggers had his second straight strong start as the Aggies cruised to a 15-3 win over Virginia Tech on Friday.

Mayo went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and a RBI. It was Mayo’s third straight multiple-hit game as he continued his five-game hitting streak. Eggers improved to 2-0 on the season with his first career complete game. Eggers struck out four, gave up just three hits and saw his ERA drop to 2.93.

Jeremy Jones, Charlie Gamble, Kory Kinnear, Nelson Santos and Lester Rivenbark had two hits apiece as the Aggies pounded 15 for the game, including a home run apiece from Kinnear and C.J. Beatty. Both Kinnear and Beatty hit their homers in the fourth inning to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead. Beatty, a freshman out of Winston-Salem, hit his first career home run.

Charlie Gamble added to the lead when he drove home Jones with a RBI single to give the Aggies a 5-0 lead. The game broke open, however, in the seventh and eighth when the Aggies scored seven runs over the two innings. The big blow in the seventh was a two-out RBI double by Santos that scored Jones and Gamble.

In the eighth, it was Kinnear’s turn to drill a two-out RBI double into the outfield that gave the Aggies an 8-0 lead.

The Aggies (2-5) continue their three-game series against the Hokies on Saturday with a game at 2 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
