Kinnear records two hits
Box Score Kory Kinnear went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jeremy Jones was 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Aggies lost two out of three in the series to fall to 2-7 on the season. Nick Rogers (0-2) took the lost for the Aggies despite pitching six strong innings with strike outs, but he did walk six batters. The Aggies jumped out to an early lead over the Hokies. Junior shortstop Nick Mayo led off the game with a walk. He moved to third on a bad pick-off throw by Frederickson. Jones stepped and drove Mayo home with a single to left. Two balks by Frederickson moved Jones to third as Kinnear’s two-out single brought home Jones for a 2-0 lead. The Aggies held the lead until the fourth when Jose Cueto led the inning off by being walked by Rogers. Warren Schaeffer drove home Cueto with a triple to right field to tie the game at 2. Schaeffer scored on a ground out by Luke Padgett to give the Hokies the lead for good. Cross took over from there. He faced just two batters over the minimum in winning his first game of the season. He allowed the Aggies just one hit and two walks while striking out 11. The Aggies return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Greenville, N.C., to face East Carolina at 3 p.m. |
