BEATTY, GAMBLE EARN MORE HONORS

Beatty, Gamble add to a season full of awards

GREENSBORO, June 6, 2007 Collegiate Baseball newspaper released its list of 2007 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans on Wednesday. North Carolina A&T’s C.J. Beatty earned a spot on the list with 90 other freshmen from around the country. He was one of 18 freshman outfielders to make the list.

Also on Wednesday, senior outfielder Charlie Gamble was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Baseball team for the second straight season. Gamble was the only repeat performer on the team that includes Division I players from around the state.

For Beatty and Gamble, Wednesday’s announcements add to a postseason that has been very prosperous for the duo.

On April 30, Beatty was named N.C. A&T’s department of athletics Freshman Male Athlete of the Year. Two-and-half weeks later he earned MEAC Rookie of the Year honors along with being named first-team All-MEAC.

Gamble, meanwhile, will need to clear a lot of space of his trophy case. Gamble was named the department’s Senior Male Athlete of the Year followed by being named the MEAC’s Player of the Year. He also earned first-team honors for the third time in his career. After the MEAC Tournament, in which Gamble led the Aggies to the championship game, he was named a third-team All-American by Louisville Slugger.

Gamble batted .409 with 10 home runs and 57 RBI in 2007. He led the MEAC in batting, home runs (10), hits (92), slugging percentage (.653) and total bases (147). He was second in the league in doubles (19) and RBI. Gamble also broke the school’s single-season hits record for the second time in his career. He owns a total of nine school records.

Beatty finished the season batting .313 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI. He tied Gamble for the league-lead in home runs. He was seventh in the league in slugging percentage (.544) and seventh in total bases (106).
