GAMBLE WINS WEEKLY HONOR AGAIN

Gamble finishes regular-season batting better than .400

GREENSBORO, May 15, 2007 For the sixth time in his career, senior Charlie Gamble has earned MEAC Player of the Week honors. Last week, Gamble helped the Aggies sweep the No. 3 team in black college baseball in Jackson State by batting .444 with a home run and a double.

Gamble (6-foot-6, Pleasant Garden, N.C.) opened up the month of April with a 3-for-6 performance. He hasn’t slowed down since. In the 28 games Gamble has played since April 1, he is hitting an amazing .481 with 36 RBI. Seven of his eight home runs hit this year have come over the last 1 ˝ months.

Gamble could become the second Aggie in three years to finish the season hitting better than .400. Gamble is hitting .407 on the season. Teammate Jemery Jones hit .402 in 2005 on his way to earning MEAC Player of the Year honors.

Gamble leads the league in hitting, slugging percentage (.646), hits (81), doubles (18) and total bases (126). He is four hits shy of breaking his own single-season hits record, which he set last season with 84 hits. Gamble and the Aggies head to Norfolk, Va., to compete in the 2007 MEAC Baseball Tournament May 17-19 at Marty L. Miller Field.
