Gamble led the conference in RBI, doubles and hits last season

North
Carolina A&T third baseman Charlie Gamble has earned a spot on the 2007
Wallace Watch list released by the College Baseball Foundation. Gamble’s
appearance on the list makes him among 147 other baseball
student-athletes in the country with the opportunity to be named the
national college baseball player of the year.
“I’m really excited about receiving this honor,’’ Gamble said. “To know that your accomplishments are being observed by others nationally is a great feeling. I think as a team we have a great chance to accomplish some of our goals this year, so this is an exciting time for me.” Gamble’s appearance on the list adds to the good news he has received lately. In July, he learned that 2005 MEAC Player of the Year and 2006 Wallace Watch member Jeremy Jones would be returning to the Aggies lineup after being drafted by the Colorado Rockies. Gamble, who normally bats in the No. 4 spot in the lineup behind Jones, did not have that opportunity last season because Jones missed most of the season with a wrist injury. Gamble still managed to have an outstanding season, which ended with first-team All-MEAC honors. Gamble finished in the top 5 of 11 different statistical categories in the MEAC, and was the conference leader in five different statistical categories including hits (84), RBI (54), doubles (21), totals bases (121) and at-bats (231). He finished the season with a .364 average and eight home runs. For his career, Gamble is hitting .350 with 136 RBI and 24 home runs. The Aggies season begins on Feb. 21 against N.C. State in Raleigh at 3 p.m. The Aggies will be in action at home for the first time on Feb. 23 when they play Cincinnati at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
