After coming off a three-game sweep of conference foe Norfolk State, the Aggies dropped a 10-1 mid-week game against Appalachian State on Wednesday at Smith Stadium. C.J. Beatty remained hot at the plate by going 2-for-4, pushing his average to .436 on the season.

Beatty will find out on April 1 where his hot start ranks him nationally when the first NCAA statistical report is released. Nelson Santos had two hits and a RBI.

Jody Calloway (1-1) took the loss on Wednesday after a rough outing that saw him surrender nine earned runs and walk six over 3.1 innings pitched. Marquis Frink came on in relief and pitched well. He went 4.2 innings, gave up only two hits and did not give up a run while striking out five.

The Aggies only run of the game came when Beatty’s triple in the ninth inning was followed by a RBI single from Santos. Nick Rogers followed with a double. With two outs, Phillip Brewington loaded the bases with a walk. But Nick Mayo hit into a force play to end the game.

The Aggies play another non-conference game on Thursday when they face High Point in High Point at 7 p.m. The Aggies then return to conference play on Saturday when they face Florida A&M in a 1 p.m., Saturday doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium.
