Aggies, Camels split season series
Box Score Wes Edwards and Hunter combined to hold the Aggies to a season-low one hit. The ironic part of the game was that in the earlier contest between the two teams on March 18, the Aggies one-hit the Camels. The Aggies dropped to 14-23 on the season while the Camels improved to 15-22. The Aggies never reached second base and Nick Mayo had the only Aggies hit, a single up the middle in the third inning. Edwards went 5 1/3 innings struck out three and walked two to improve to 1-2 on the season. Aggies starter Chris Eggers (1-3) was the tough-luck loser. He went six innings, surrendered four runs and struck out three. The Camels got on the board thanks to a double off the right-center wall by Ryan Hamme and a bunt single to third base from Ellis Lowe. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Carlton Floyd, an infield single by Brandon Scott plated Hamme and an overthrow by Aggie second baseman James Howard allowed Lowe to score, giving Campbell an early 2-0 advantage. Eggers got stronger as the game went on, allowing just two Camel hits between the second and fifth innings. Campbell finally got to Eggers again in the sixth. After Brian Gana was hit by a pitch and advanced on a Mike Causey sac bunt, a two-out single into shallow right field from Bryan Braswell lengthened Campbell’s lead to 3-0. With no one out in the seventh inning, Johnson forced Eggers out of the game as he took his 3-2 pitch and drove it deep over the left field wall finalizing the score in favor of Campbell 4-0. The Aggies are back in action Wednesday when they return home for the first time in two weeks to face Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m., from War Memorial Stadium.
