North Carolina A&T baseball managed just four hits against Wofford and lost its home finale 5-1 to the Terriers.

Eleven Aggie seniors played their final game as an Aggie at War Memorial Stadium. The day was not as memorable as Sunday when the Aggies celebrated Senior Day with an 8-2 win over Delaware State where a vast majority of the seniors contributed.

With most of the aura from those festivities mostly dissipated, the Aggies struggled to getting going on offensively. It’s because the Aggies could not get going offensively, they could not take advantage of the six walks given by Terriers pitching. Terrier starter Jordan Mickleberry went seven innings, gave up just three hits and struck out five to improve to 3-2 on the season. But Aggies starter Donald Howerton was having a strong game as well as the two teams went into the fifth scoreless. But an Aggies miscue helped Wofford get on the scoreboard.

Howerton’s throw to pick off Alex Lee at first base ended up in the Aggies bullpen, which allowed Lee to go third. Howerton was aided by Sterling Dye grounding out for the second out in the inning. But instead of getting out of the inning, Howerton walked Kyle Behrendt to keep the inning going.

Michael Gilmartin made him pay by hitting a RBI double to give the Terrier a 1-0 lead. After the run, Howerton was replaced by Chris Eggers. Eggers got the Aggies out of the inning, but gave up two runs in the sixth off of Eggers to go up 3-0. The Aggies got on the board in their half of the sixth. Mickelberry walked C.J. Beatty. McIntyre, the team’s leader in RBIs, stepped up and hit a RBI double to right to score Beatty t make it a two-run game.

The Aggies couldn’t keep the Terriers off the board as they scored a run in each of the next two innings to put the Aggies away. The Aggies dropped to 21-26 on the season, while the Terriers improved to 21-25. Howerton took the loss. He is 2-4 on the season. The Aggies will head to Baltimore to face Coppin State in a three-game series starting with a 1 p.m., doubleheader.
