BUIES CREEK, February 20, 2009 – The latest era in North Carolina A&T baseball started Friday as freshman shortstop Xavier Macklin combined for five hits in a doubleheader losses to Campbell, 16-5 and 10-3 at Taylor Field.

Macklin (Rocky Mount, N.C., 6-1, 189) had a double and two RBI on the day. In the first game, Macklin was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. C.J. Beatty, Nick Rogers and James Howard had two hits apiece in the first game. Rogers’ totals included a home run even though he was the losing pitcher on the mound.

The Camels jumped on the Aggies quickly in the opening game, scoring 13 runs over the first three innings. The Aggies helped by committing four errors over the same span. They committed seven for the game.

In the second contest, Macklin went 2-for-3 and was aided by catcher Lester Rivenbark who finished the game 2-for-4. Senior Cyril Daniel hit a two-run homer in the second inning to tie the game at 2. The Camels regained the lead thanks in part to a two-run RBI double by Zach Johnson that led to a three-run fourth inning.

The Aggies trimmed to lead to 5-3 on a Beatty RBI sacrifice fly that scored Howard in the visitor’s fifth. But two more Camel runs in the bottom of the fifth gave the Camels all the cushion they needed.

The two teams will play again Saturday at 1 p.m.
