AGGIES LOSE THIRD STRAIGHT

BUIES CREEK, February 21, 2009 –
North Carolina A&T head baseball coach Keith Shumate said championships are not won in January, but in May. After this weekend, those words will keep Shumate confident about his young team.

Campbell completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies with an 11-4 win Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. Nick Rogers and Chris Mullins had two hits apiece for the Aggies who dropped to 0-3 on the new season.

Freshman pitcher Brian McCraw took the loss for the Aggies as he 5.2 innings and gave up just two earned runs. He was not helped by the Aggies defense behind him. N.C. A&T committed eight errors for the game and recorded 16 during the three-game series.

Despite the mistakes, the Aggies trailed only 3-0 going into the top of the sixth. Freshman Xavier Macklin opened the inning by earning a walk from Josh Fish. C.J. Beatty followed with another walk. Two outs later, Mullins hit a two-run RBI triple to score Macklin and Beatty to move the Aggies to within one.

But the Camels responded by scoring four runs in the home half of the sixth thanks to two errors by the Aggies.

The Aggies will play the Camels again, but this time at War Memorial Stadium as the two teams play Tuesday at 3 p.m.
