Box Score But along the way, the Aggies ran into a snag in the eighth inning that caused them to drop to 0-5 on the young season with a 10-5 loss to Winthrop Tuesday night at Winthrop Baseball Park. B.J. Curtis led the Aggies by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Lester Rivenbark, Cyril Daniel, Chris Mullins and Xavier Macklin also had two hits apiece. The Aggies also received six strong innings of pitching from ace Nick Rogers. Rogers ran into some trouble in the third, giving up three runs to the Eagles in the second inning. His offense would come to the rescue in the fifth, however. The Aggies opened the inning with back-to-back singles by Curtis and Rivenbark. Macklin then hit a one-out grounder to first that was mishandled, allowing Curtis to score. Mullins would follow with an RBI single to move the Aggies to within one at 3-2. Down 4-2 going into the eighth, the Aggies made a major push for winning their first game of the season. Marquis Riley earned a one-out walk. Cyril Daniel followed with a single. An error by McGinnis moved the runners into scoring position. Curtis ripped a two-run RBI double to left field, scoring Riley and Daniel to the score at 4. Hough replaced McGinnis on the mound for the Eagles, but it didn’t matter. Rivenbark followed Curtis’ double with a double of his own to score Curtis and give the Aggies a 5-4 lead heading into the home half of the eighth. But the Eagles buried the Aggies hopes with a six-run eighth that included a two-run RBI single by Henderson. The Aggies will be back in action on Saturday when they face Savannah State in doubleheader action at noon on the road.
