RILEY NAMED MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Riley wins award for the second straight week

GREENSBORO, May 5, 2009 – Marquis Riley helped the Aggies win an important series against Delaware State and earned his second straight MEAC Rookie of the Week honor. Riley matched teammate Xavier Macklin’s number of Rookie of the Week honors with two on the season. Riley started the month of April batting .238. But as May approaches, he is now batting .309 after hitting .369 for the month.

Riley is a 5-foot-11 second baseman from Efland, N.C. Last week, he was 8-for-17 for the week with one RBI and a double. Riley went 3-for-4 against Delaware State with an RBI. A day later, he went 1-for-3 with two runs as the Aggies defeated the Hornets 7-3. Riley had five hits in the series to help the Aggies take two of three from the Hornets.

Riley also played well defensively. In 28 fielding opportunities, Riley did not make an error. The week also included Riley stealing two bases and three runs scored.
