Gamble hitting .444 since 1-for-20 start, Hauff has 42
strikeouts in 32 innings pitched this season
GREENSBORO,
N.C., March
21, 2006 –
Charlie Gamble and
Michael Hauff didn’t start the 2006 season particularly well, but both
men appear in midseason form at this point.
Gamble, a 6-foot-6
junior third baseman out of Pleasant Garden, N.C., was named MEAC
Baseball Payer of the Week as he helped the Aggies go 4-2 from March
13-19. Hauff, a 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher out of Asheboro, N.C., was
named MEAC Pitcher of the Week for his performance against the
University of Alabama-Birmingham over the weekend.
Gamble batted .360
during the week (9-for-25) with two doubles, two triples and five RBI.
Gamble’s 2-run RBI double against Appalachian State helped the Aggies
down the Mountaineers 3-2 on Wednesday. His double against UAB helped
the Aggies secure a 6-5 win over the Blazers on Saturday.
In the Aggies first
five games, Gamble wasn’t as hot. He started the season in a 1-for-20
slump. But since that point he has hit safely in 16 out of the Aggies
last 17 games. During that stretch, he put together a 12-game hitting
streak.
Gamble is hitting
.359 with one home run, nine doubles and 19 RBI. The Aggies are 10-12
this season and 6-3 in their last nine games.
Hauff, last
season’s MEAC Pitcher of the Year, also had a rough start. In the Aggies
season opener against Cincinnati, Hauff was replaced after surrendering
nine runs – six of them earned – in 2.1 innings. He has been outstanding
ever since. Against UAB, he pitched a complete-game five-hitter and
struck out 15 batters.
In his previous
start against Savannah State, Hauff pitched a complete-game four hitter
and struck out 11. He came in as a closer against a strong Charlotte
University team and retired the 49ers in order to earn the save in a 3-2
win.
Hauff has 323
career strikeouts and 18 career wins as an Aggie. He is 2-0 this season
with 42 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA.
