McIntyre, Mayo register four hits apiece LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., April 28, 2005 – Michael Hauff stepped on the mound a day after earning first-team All-MEAC honors and showed why he was selected. Hauff (8-3) struck out 12 batters over eight innings pitched to lead N.C. A&T to a 10-1 win over Florida A&M at the Disney Wide-World of Sports complex. The top-seeded Aggies (25-24) were playing their opening game due to a bye, while the Rattlers came into the game fresh off of a 10-9 over Delaware State. Nic Mayo and Joe McIntyre led the Aggies offensively with four hits and two RBI apiece. The Rattles Scott Lietz was the losing pitcher. He dropped to 3-5. David Hampton went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Rattles (19-32). The Aggies took advantage of Florida A&M miscues early before putting the Rattlers way with sound hitting later in the game. Four Rattler errors in the second led to three-run inning. Mayo’s RBI single plated the first run in the inning. Mayo then attempted to steal second. When throw from Rattlers catcher Dan Flaherty skipped into center field, Chris Williams who was on third, scored. Mayo scored on an error by shortstop Ciril Manego to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead. A four-run sixth in which the Aggies pounded out five hits gave Hauff a comfortable 9-1 cushion. The Aggies will face six-time MEAC Champion Bethune-Cookman Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rattlers face the winner of the Norfolk State/Coppin State game Friday at 2 p.m.
