N.C. A&T Highlights
One of
the best contact hitters in not only the MEAC, but the country…Rarely
misses making contact with the baseball…Outstanding designated hitter
for the Aggies who also has played in the outfield and first base during
his career…Named first-team All-MEAC as a sophomore and earned the MEAC
Tournament Most Valuable Player Award by going 9-for-16 in the
tournament with six RBI as freshman…Is a career .350 hitter with a
career .495 slugging percentage…Has struck out only 46 times in 420
career at-bats, which is only 11 percent of his at-bats…Has been
especially tough on left-handers with a career .388 average …Is also a
.347 hitter when runners are in scoring position…Turned out to be a
great find for Keith Shumate’s MEAC Championship team in 2005 after not
being highly recruited… Serves as protection for power hitters Jeremy
Jones, Charlie Gamble and Patrick Oates by hitting near them and
consistently putting the ball in play…Also pitched for the Aggies…Has
made nine starts, 15 appearances and pitched 52 innings…Is also solid in
the field with a career .969 fielding percentage.
2006 Season
Played
in and started all 58 games for the Aggies…Played several different
roles for the Aggies, including designated hitter, outfield and first
base…Batted .371 with 35 RBI and 10 home runs…Led the MEAC in hitting
and recorded the second-highest amount of hits in a season in N.C. A&T
history with 83…Ranked third in the MEAC in home runs and runs
(47)…Ranked second in the league in hits and total bases (128), while
finishing third in at-bats with 224…Batted .395 against left-handers,
which ranked No. 1 in the MEAC…Also batted .328 with runners in scoring
position and was an impressive 11-for-12 with a runner on third and less
than two outs…Hit .351 with two outs in the inning and .395 with runners
on base…Had 22 multiple hit games, including 11 games where he had three
hits or more…Put together a 20-game hitting streak between March 29 and
April 29…Hit .443 with 12 RBI, three home runs and 18 runs scored…Went
4-for-4 with two RBI, a home run and two runs scored against Radford on
March 3…Was a combined 7-for-14 with five RBI and five runs scored in a
three-game series against Coppin State on May 6 and 7 in which the
Aggies took two out of three…Hit two home runs and collected six RBI
against VMI on May 12…On the next day against VMI, went 2-for-4 with two
runs scored and two RBI…Also pitched for the Aggies last season…Made
four appearances and just three starts…Made a strong first appearance on
April 1 against Florida A&M by pitching 2.1 innings, giving up just two
hits and striking out five…Made his first start of the season on April 5
by pitching 5.2 innings against Wofford.
2005 Season
Played
in 53 of the Aggies 54 games and made 53 starts…Was a clutch hitter for
the Aggies…Batted .358 with runners in scoring position and batted .312
with two outs and runners on base…Batted .327 with 29 RBI, including 16
doubles…Also made 11 pitching appearances with six games started…In 62.1
innings, recorded a 6.87 ERA with 16 strikeouts and a 1-3 record….Ranked
11th in the MEAC in batting and third on the team…Ranked
third in the MEAC in doubles and had 18 multiple hit games…Went 2-for-4
with two RBI and a run scored in the MEAC Championship Game against
Norfolk State…Had four hits and three RBI in the opening game of the
MEAC tourney against Florida A&M…Was 8-for-13 with seven runs scored and
three RBI in a three-game series versus Maryland-Eastern Shore April
2-3…Went 4-for-10 with three runs scored and three RBI in a three-game
series against Savannah State April 9-10…Earned his first career win on
the mound by pitching six innings, surrendering just two earned runs,
walking none and striking out one in a win over Wofford on April 6 …Made
his debut against Gardner-Webb by pitching the Aggies out of a jam in
2/3 innings as N.C. A&T won 5-2…Left-handers struggled against him,
batting just .154.
