JOHNSON MAKES ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

The North Carolina A&T bowling team made valiant run during the MEAC Bowling Championships, but came up short in one of the toughest bowling conferences in the nation. N.C. A&T junior Erica Johnson earned all-tournament honors during the MEAC Championships after averaging 183.25 total pins to finish in the top five averages of the tournament.

The Aggies played their way into a No. 8 seed going into Saturday’s match-ups. The No. 8 seed put the Aggies up against nationally ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Aggies competed well throughout the first round, but a 225-162 final in Game 3 led the Hawks to victory and forced the Aggies into the loser’s bracket.

There, the Aggies upset Bethune-Cookman and then took out host Hampton put them one win away from advancing to the semifinals. Again, the Aggies ran into a nationally-ranked power. This time it was No. 23 Delaware State. The Aggies dropped Game 1, but rebounded to win Game 2 with an impressive 208-176 win. But the Hornets took control of the match with a Game 5 190-133 win.

The Aggies finished their season at 23-40 overall and 12-12 in the MEAC. Johnson’s all-tournament is the first of her career. She finished by bowling 35 games in team-match play with an average 167.4. Johnson’s best showing this season came in MEAC Divisional play on Nov. 10 when she finished with an average of 204.8 and had a game in which she bowled a 244.
