POSTGAME QUOTES FOR B-CU GAME

Coach Fobbs on the game
“It was not a good first half for us. We made some adjustments in the second half to get back in the ball game. It was a great play by Joseph Taylor picking up the football and scoring. I thought the defense played well. Unfortunately, something happened today that certain people on the field couldn’t explain to me.”

Coach Fobbs on the controversial play
“They said to me that it was muffed at the 1. He said it was a kick and it was muffed and it carried into the end zone, so it’s a touchback. That’s the way it was explained. I thought we should have had a safety. They didn’t agree.”

Fobbs on the Wildcats game-winning drive
“They got the big pass, which kind of opened things up for them. For awhile there they were kind of playing it safe because they knew they had a good field goal kicker and he could tie it up.”

Fobbs on the rainy weather and homecoming events leading up to the game
”With the way everything was going in terms of the weather we had to make adjustments in practice. And don’t get me wrong, we definitely needed the rain. We had to practice in the gym because of the rain, but we were still able to accomplish some things. I thought our kids were totally locked in despite it being homecoming week. There are a lot of things that go on that is good for homecoming, but not necessarily good for our players. I thought they did a nice job of adjusting to all the things that were going on and now they can enjoy homecoming the rest of the weekend.”

Michael Ferguson on the flea-flicker play for a touchdown
“My job was to sell the run and get the ball back to the quarterback and block. I felt them starting to grab for me, so I turned and gave it to Shelton. I knew if it got into (Michael Caldwell’s) hands it would be a big play.

Michael Ferguson on his 111-yard performance
”I was trying to run as hard as I can to get a win. My offensive line opened up some gaps and I ran through them. I’ll I’m trying to do out there is win.”

Caldwell on the flea-flicker play
“I was determined. I felt the guy behind me, but I was just determined to help my team win. I dream about making plays all the time. I want to be the person making plays. It just so happens that my number was called. I was able to slip up under the corner because he thought I was just going to block. Shelton let it go. After the guy slipped off my leg, all I saw was the end zone.”

Coach Fobbs on the Aggies not turning the ball over
“We work on it a lot. The weather broke today. We actually felt like we’d be playing in rain today when we looked at the extended forecast. So it was something we really focused on this week. It’s a part of the game, we’ve got to protect the football. So it was nice to see us hold on to it today.”

Coach Fobbs on losing homecoming
”It’s disappointing not to win, period. I understand the magnitude of winning at home and the magnitude of winning homecoming here at A&T. I understand all of that. But it’s frustrating to these guys to lose any ballgame. They work hard every day, they do everything I ask them to do. There are times when I ask them to look at themselves and then there are the times when I look at myself. We’re all in this thing together. It’s more disappointing (to the seniors) because they’re the most important part of this whole thing. We were on a mission to come out here and win for those guys and it didn’t happen.”

Coach Fobbs on Senior Day
”The thing I want everybody to understand is that these guys work extremely hard. They come from a place that no one understands. No one knows how much these guys sacrifice to come out here and perform. We have eight seniors and I really hurt for those eight seniors. There is a genuine love for everybody on this football team. We keep come out here and playing hard because everybody cares for each other. That four-letter word “love” really means a lot. They’re going to keep battling and keep fighting to the very end. They’re not going to quit.”
