Coach
Fobbs on the
Hampton
game
“It was
a very physical football game, there is no question about that. I felt
like our defense played well. Offensively, we just didn’t have enough
continuity. Throughout the ball game that was our problem. We got a few
things going, but we just weren't able to be consistent.”
Coach
Fobbs on the physical nature of the game
“They
had some nice drives and some very good runs. And we pressed a little
bit on some throws. The opportunities were there for us, we just didn’t
cash in. In a physical game like this you just hope you come out healthy
and I felt like we did anyway. “
Quarterback
Shelton Morgan on his performance
“Tonight, I evaluated my performance in two halves. I believe in the
first half my performance was exceptional. In the second half, after the
first interception, I believe I started rushing things. At that point,
the game kind of got out of control. But I believe I laid down a
foundation and something I can build on.”
Morgan
on the help he was getting from previous starter Herb Miller
“Herb
was telling me what was going. Stuff I couldn’t see on the field, he
could see on the sideline, so he was trying to tell me what was going on
in terms of the coverages and the defenses’ tendencies were. Herb knows
because he’s been out there before. He knows what I’m going through.”
Fullback
Trey Green on his touchdown before the half
“Down
17-7 at halftime, we’re still in the game. We were excited. We were
ready to go out and do the things we needed to do to win. As far as the
touchdown call goes, he was a great call by (coach Kenny Ray). We just
caught them off guard. I was open, and I just did what I was supposed to
do.”
Coach
Fobbs on the second-half kickoff confusion
“It was
a total error and I’ll take responsibility for it. We wanted to defer
to the second half, but we just said it the wrong way. We just didn’t
word it right and we had to pay for it because we had to kick to them in
the second half. Normally, you would say defer to the second half, but
we said we wanted to kick off, so….”
Coach
Fobbs on the special teams
“Just
like last week we corrected the things in our punting game. The thing
that happened tonight was coverage, getting out of our lanes. We’ll
continue to work and get those things taken care of. “
Coach
Fobbs on the morale of the team
“Somebody asks me that every week. Let me tell you something about these
guys. These guys love playing football. All they want to do is strap it
on Success is going to come for us. We’ve got the right guys out there.
I know this because they bust their tails every day at practice. And you
have never seen – through all the ball games we’ve played – those guys
go out there and quit. Our guys are hungry, and our guys are going to
get it done.”
