AGGIES EARN WEEKLY HONORS

GREENSBORO, SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 – North Carolina A&T was rewarded this week for its first victory in 2 ½ seasons as the Aggies had three players earn weekly honors from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Aggies defeated Johnson C. Smith 44-12 on Saturday and had players win Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week and Offensive Lineman of the Week following the victory.  

Senior Running back Michael Ferguson (Durham, N.C., 5-11, 211) earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors along with Norfolk State’s DeAngelo Branche. Ferguson rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries against the Golden Bulls. Ferguson had runs of 34, 16 and 15 to help him rush for his ninth career 100-yard game. He also moved closer to breaking the Aggies all-time rushing record.

Andre Thornton (6-3, 233) produced his fourth career double-figure tackling performance with 11 stops on Saturday to earn the defensive honor. Thornton won for the first time as collegiate player after not losing as a high school player at Charlotte Independence. Thornton also had two pass breakups in a game that featured a school that is located in his hometown of Charlotte.

Sophomore Enoch Cohen (Winston-Salem, N.C., 6-4, 285) earned the offensive lineman honor. Cohen had six knockdowns against Johnson C. Smith, and cleared the way for the Aggies to compile 291 yards rushing and 448 yards of total offense.

“It was a great win and I’m glad for the recognitions, but we have turn our focus to Winston-Salem,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Lee Fobbs. “Our kids played hard and I’m excited for them.”
