Aggies await their seeding in the MEAC Tournament
Box
Score But as the old adage says…two out of three is not bad. The Aggies led by as many as seven in the second half, but could not hold on as the regular-season champion Delaware State defeated the Aggies 62-53. Greg Roberts, who has been stellar in his last three games, had 10 points, while Steven Rush led the way with 12. The Aggies will have to await their fate in terms of a seeding in next week’s tournament. There could be as many as five teams standing at 10-8. Among those teams are Morgan State, Hampton, Norfolk State, S.C. State and the Aggies. Hampton, Norfolk State, S.C. State and N.C. A&T are already 10-8. Morgan State must travel cross-town to face city rival Coppin State on Saturday. If the Bears win, they’ll wrap up the No. 3 seed and leave the remaining four teams with an interesting tiebreaker scenario. If the Bears lose, it would set up an even more interesting scenario where five teams are fighting for three available byes with Delaware State and Florida A&M already clinching opening-day byes. A win on Wednesday would have secured a bye for the Aggies, who are looking to have to play just three games to win the MEAC title. The Aggies led 27-18 in the first and had a 3629 lead in the second half. DSU got their first lead of the second half 40-39, when Roy Bright connected from three point range with 12:12 left. It was Bright again on a jumper that gave the Hornets the lead for good 47-46 with 8:41 left. DSU closed out the game holding the Aggies scoreless in the last 4:51 seconds of the game. Senior forward Troy Roundtree finished with a double-double 14 points and a season high 12 rebounds, while Jahsha Blountt also finish with 11 points and four assists. The Aggies finish the regular-season 14-16 overall and 10-8 in the MEAC. Fourteen wins are the most wins the Aggies have had in seven seasons. Their 10 wins in the conference are the most they’ve had in five seasons. |
