As it is accustomed to doing, the North Carolina A&T men’s basketball team had a team from a major conference on the ropes, but hit a scoring drought that eventually cost it the game.

On Friday, the St. Louis held the Aggies to 25 percent shooting in the second half to earn a 54-43 win over the Aggies at the 2007 Hispanic College Fund Basketball Challenge hosted by Pittsburgh University. The Aggies were led by Jason Wills, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

All-conference guard Steven Rush was just 3-for-15 from the floor as he finished with nine points. The Billikens were led by Kevin Lisch’s 24 points.

With 1:39 remaining in the first half, Wills drove the lane for a layup that gave the Aggies a 26-25 lead.

St. Louis took the lead early in the second half, but the Aggies did not let them get away. Wills’ 3-pointer at the 14:19 mark put the Aggies down by one, 33-32. But the Aggies would go cold from there. Their next pints would not come until the 8:40 mark.

During that span, the Aggies went 0-for-6 from the floor. And while the Billikens didn’t exactly knock down every shot over the Aggies dry spell, they scored enough points to take a 10-point lead. James Poter finally ended the Aggies drought, but Tommie Liddell hit a 3-pointer soon after to give St. Louis a 45-34 lead with 7:38 remaining.

The Aggies never cut the lead under eight the rest of the way as they started their 13th straight season without an opening day win.
