AGGIES v. ANDERSON POSTGAME QUOTES

Coach Jerry Eaves on the game versus Anderson
“Overall our effort wasn’t bad. I think we’re just finding our way. We don’t have our niche just yet, but it’s early. At this point we’re 2-2 with a chance to be 3-2 on Monday. We’ve got DePaul and Tennessee next week. After five games, those will be good test for us. At that point I’ll be able to evaluate my team better. Right now we’re just finding our way.”

Eaves on playing Division II Anderson
“We’ve got a chance to be pretty good once people get in and totally buy into the system. If we continue to stand by each other and share the ball, we’re going to be good. This was a great game for us because this was Hampton last year with that widespread zone, and it’s early in the year. I’m really, really glad we played them because it gave us the opportunity to see that style before the conference. You see that style once every 20 ball games, so I’m really glad we got a chance to see that.”

Coach Eaves on the Aggies perimeter shooting
“We’re just going to keep shooting. It’s eventually going to go in. There is no magic involved here. We have a chance to be St. Louis if we hit a shot. There is no question we are able to play at that level. We need to shoot better from the perimeter, there is no question about that. But you know, you just have to keep shooting the ball at the basket. There will be a game where our shooters will be 18-for-20 from the three. It all evens out when you have the shooters we have.”

Coach Eaves on the any improvement he saw
“It’s just a process. I think we could have done a better job of keeping them off the offensive boards. I think overall what you saw out there was pretty much what I expected. We’re still trying to figure it out, but we came away and scored 86 points and shot the ball from the outside God awful. So we had to find another way to score and we did. I’ve been here where we shot 4-for-20 from three and scored 43 points.”

Eaves on some of the Aggies key role players
“I’m not all that concerned about the young, young kids at this point. (Ed Jones, Nick Wilson and Thomas Coleman) need the minutes right now because they’ll definitely be contributing for us as the season goes on. When we play in the conference we’re going to need them to be more aggressive. When you have God-given talent you have to use it. “

Eaves on finding other ways to score
“There were a lot of times Steve turned down shots he could have taken. We were 1-for-10 from three at the half. I told my coaches that’s good because sometimes you have to do other things. I’d like to see more pump fakes, dribble, dribble, dribble and pull up. But we didn’t say we’re just going to survive on hitting the outside shot.”

Guard Steven Rush on playing in the home opener
“We had a great crowd as usual. It was tough playing on the road because the two games we played outside of (Pittsburgh) was just dead. There was nobody in the gym. It’s tough getting up for a game when you come out and see that. It’s always nice to have your home crowd pulling for you.”

Forward Jason Wills on his performance
“There is no difference for me in where I play. I play within myself, I don’t take too many bad shots and I distribute the basketball. That’s what I do. I go out and play the game and then look at the stat sheet when it’s over.”

Rush on this season’s expectations
“I think we did at the beginning. I know everyone was excited about this season, including us, about what we did last year when you compare it to previous few seasons at A&T. As for me personally, I just have to relax. I was a little more relaxed tonight. I have high expectations for myself, but I think we all just have to play our games, have fun and relax.”
