COMEBACK FALLS SHORT, AGGIES TO PLAY HOWARD AGAIN

ORANGEBURG, SC, March 3, 2006 --
The Aggies came in knowing where they were going to play in next week’s MEAC Tournament in Raleigh, but it would have been nice to go into that time slot off of win.

Unfortunately, for the Aggies it didn’t happen that way. The Aggies could never get into a rhythm offensively and lost 51-44 to S.C. State in men’s basketball action on Friday at Chaflin University’s Tullis Arena in Orangeburg.

The outcome does nothing to the Aggies positioning for next week. They will play Howard University 9 p.m., Tuesday at the RBC Center in Raleigh. It will be the Aggies second meeting with the Bison in six days.

Howard defeated the Aggies in Corbett Sports Center on Wednesday, 58-50. Walter Booth led the Aggies with 13 points and Jason Wills added 11.

The Aggies trailed by as many as 11 in the second half. They trailed by 10 with 4:16 remaining, 49-39. But Jason Wills swooped in for a wicked one-hand slam to cut it to eight with 2:43 remaining. Trahern Chaplin then nailed a three 22 seconds later to pull the Aggies to within five.

Aggie freshman Christopher Faison had a chance to pull the Aggies to within two with a wide open 3-pointer. But his attempt was long and fell into the hands of Chris Williams as the Bulldogs clinched the game at the line.

The AGgies finish the regular-season at 6-22 and 6-12 in the MEAC. They played without Greg Roberts (ankle) for the second straight game and Angelo Hernandez was out because of an illness.
