HURRICANE GUARDS TOO MUCH FOR AGGIES

Morrison scores a career high 14

MIAMI, Fla., November 22, 2005  – Miami used the combination of Jimmy Graham and Anthony King to double up the Aggies in the rebounding category, and then used guards Robert Hite and Guillermo Diaz to put away the Aggies 87-62 in non-conference men’s basketball action.

“There was no question they were more aggressive than we were,’’ said N.C. A&T head men’s basketball coach Jerry Eaves. “I have very good athletes on my team, very competitive athletes. We don’t have a problem there. But my guys have to learn to compete on the glass. We got killed on the glass tonight.”

The Hurricanes outrebounded the Aggies 50-24 overall and 19-5 on the offensive glass. Those numbers helped the Hurricanes outscore the Aggies 17-8 in second chance points and 42-14 in the paint.

As well as the Hurricanes rebounded, however, it was their guard play that ignited their offense.  After a free throw from sophomore Aggies forward Jason Wills made it 19-14 in the first half, Diaz found himself wide open in the corner for a three that would ignite a 10-0 run that the Aggies never recovered from.

Despite the loss, Demetrius Guions led the Aggies with 17, while Morrison chipped in with a career high 14 points. Diaz and Robert Hite had 18 apiece for the Hurricanes.
