There are a lot of high hopes for Powell as an Aggie because he brings so much versatility to the program…Powell can play point guard, shooting guard and this season he will likely play in the frontcourt…Possesses tremendous athleticism and will give the Aggies an excellent passer in the post…The left-hander sees the floor extremely well according to head coach Jerry Eaves.
High School Career: Played four seasons at Massanutten Military Academy...Named conference player of the year as a senior...As a senior, he was also named all-tournament and all-conference teams...Earned all-tournament and all-conference honors as a junior, and as a sophomore he was named to the all-tournament team.
Personal: Full name is Adrian Raenard Powell…He is the son of Calvin Baker and Cathy Powell…He has two siblings, Kevin and Tamiko…His nicknames include A.P. and “A”…His first basketball memory is playing on an 8-foot goal, throwing an alley-oop to his cousin and seeing his cousin Julius assessed a technical foul for dunking…His favorite basketball moment was a deadly crossover as a freshman that made his opponent fall down; on the next play his cousin (same cousin) had a 360 degree dunk…Wanted to wear No. 5 as a collegiate, but surrendered the number to teammate Dwane Joshua and chose No. 2 because it is the second number in Magic Johnson’s jersey number (32)…Never leaves home without his Lil’ Boosie CD because he is Powell’s favorite rapper…If he owned his own business it would be a recreation center for children in his neighborhood so they could stay out of trouble.
