Tangala Conover missed two weeks with an injury. She returned on Friday and it appears she is making up for lost time. On Sunday, she was a combined 6-for-9 with three runs scored and four RBI to lead the Aggies to a doubleheader sweep of S.C. State 13-4 and 12-2.

Conover is a combined 8-for-14 with five runs scored and six RBI since her return. Conover received help in the first game as freshman Lillian Bullock and junior Sylvia Felder each had three hits. Chaola Simmons added three RBI. The Aggies combined for 25 runs and 29 hits and benefited from 11 Bulldog errors and nine walks given up by Bulldogs pitching.

N.C. A&T has won 7 out of their last 8 games, and improved to 16-17 overall and 4-0 in the MEAC.

It would take a late surge before the Aggies could pull away in the first game. The Aggies jumped out to a big lead as Simmons scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch and Conover followed with a RBI single that scored Adia Dial.

Britney Reddick led of the second by reaching on a Bulldogs error. After a wild pitch advanced her to second, Jessica Cooper hit a RBI double to score Reddick for a 3-0 Aggies lead. Cooper advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Felder RBI single.

Felder would eventually score on a passed ball for a 5-0 Aggies lead. The Bulldogs fought back with one run in the second and two runs in the third.

In the fourth, Dial singled home Felder who was on base thanks to an error and moved to third thanks to a wild pitch. With the Aggies leading 6-3 going into the sixth, S.C. State continued to fight back. Aggies starter Sasha Philpot walked Freeman with one out in the sixth.

Philpot then hit Hemphill with the pitch to put runners at first and second. Sade Wilson loaded the bases and brought the go-ahead run to the plate in Duncan. Duncan scored Freeman with a groundball to shortstop to cut the Aggies lead to 6-4.  Felder got Hemphill going to third and catcher Tabitha Veney threw out Wilson trying to go to third to end the Bulldogs rally.

But any hopes of a Bulldogs victory, ended in the Aggies half of the seventh. Cooper led the inning off with a double. Felder followed with a single to put runners on the corners for Simmons. Simmons reached on a Bulldogs error that scored Cooper and Felder.

Dial walked to keep the rally alive. Larson scored Simmons on a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Aggies a 9-4 lead. Veney’s three-run home run that followed all but assured the Aggies victory.
