Box Score vs. Bucknell
CHARLOTTE, February 17, 2007
North Carolina A&T softball coach Mamie Jones went in search of power and it appears she found it. Freshman Lillian Bullock had one of the best debuts in the history of Aggie Athletics by going a combined 5-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored in the first two games of the University of Charlotte Tournament. Bullock’s day also included two home runs and two doubles.

In Game 1, the Aggies defeated Eastern Kentucky 10-7 and in the nightcap they took down Bucknell 6-4. Bullock, who earned more accolades in high school for her basketball play, chose Division I softball which doesn’t look like a bad decision.

Bullock began her superb debut by following Tabitha Veney’s first career home run with a double down the left-field line in the fourth . Bullock was stranded at third with the Aggies leading 3-2. But in the fifth everything went right for the Aggies.

Freshman Tangala Conover led off the inning by being hit by a Fox pitch. With one out, Veney singled up the middle to advance Conover to second. Bullock then homered to left for her first career RBIs and a 6-2 Aggies lead.

The inning continued as senior Jessica Cooper walked. With two out, Yahamma White doubled to left, scoring Cooper. Adia Dial scored White on a single and Jessie Larson finished off the Aggies six-run inning with a double that scored Dial.

Adia Dial earned the win by pitching six innings and striking out one. Sasha Philpot came in and shut down Eastern Kentucky in the seventh to secure the win. Larson went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game, while Conover went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.

In the second game, Jones got a better look at what Philpot has to offer over the next four seasons. The freshman out of Stone Mountain, Ga., pitched seven innings, struck out nine and gave up just three earned runs in the win over Bucknell.

Bullock put the Aggies on the board early with a two-run homer in the second. After Bucknell scored in the third, Bullock led off the Aggies half of the third with a walk. Bullock advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Cooper.

On a Sylvia Felder grounder, Bucknell decided to throw home to get Bullock, but didn’t. The play put Felder on first and gave the Aggies new life. After Dial reached on an error, scoring Felder,  Larson walked, Conover doubled home Dial. Simmons capped off the four-run inning by laying down a bunt that scored Larson. After a three-run homer in the fifth pulled Bucknell to within two runs a 6-4, Philpot pitched two scoreless innings to secure the victory. Larson was 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored. The Aggies continue play in the tournament on Sunday.
