North Carolina A&T lost to host Charlotte University twice on Sunday, 12-2 and 7-6, but continued to show promise with its young players. On Saturday, it was Lillian Bullock who starred. Sunday, freshman Tangala Conover nearly led the Aggies to victory in the final of the Charlotte Tournament played at Phillips Complex.

Conover was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the second game. She was 5-for-8 with four RBI on the day.

In Game 2, the Aggies went into the seventh inning tied at 6 against the 49ers thanks to a three-run sixth inning. After Sylvia Felder grounded out to start the inning, Jessica Cooper singled up the middle with Aggies trailing 4-3.

Adia Dial kept the rally going with an infield single. Yahamma White reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases, leading to Conover’s base-clearing double that led to three runs and a 6-4 Aggies lead.

The 49ers rallied with two runs in their half of the sixth. Charlotte loaded the bases and scored a run on an RBI walk from Krisiti Killough. Becky Matthews followed that up with an RBI single to tie the game.

The Aggies had a chance to regain the lead in the seventh, but Bianca Alsobrook was caught in a run down on a Cooper groundball that essentially ended the Aggies threat. In the home half of the seventh, Charlotte’s Sarah Malene reached on a fielding error as Jamie Wellons came across to score the winning run.

With the win, the Niners improved to 9-0 on the season and won the tournament. NC A&T falls to 2-2 on the season after the Game 1 loss in which White went 2-for-4. White was 4-for-8 on the day with four runs scored.
