For the second straight games, the North Carolina A&T softball bats wouldn’t allow for a seven inning game. Yahamma White went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Tabitha Veney hit her third home run in two days to lead the Aggies to an 11-1 win over Winston-Salem State in the N.C. A&T Invitational played at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

The game was stopped in the fifth due to the mercy rule. The Aggies improved to 6-7 on the season and won their third game in four tries. Veney and Sylvia Felder had two RBI apiece.

On Saturday, the first six Aggie batters reached base. The Aggies opened up the scoring with a RBI single by Lillian Bullock scored Adia Dial. A throwing error by Kendall Sutton helped the Aggies score their next two runs to give them a 3-0 lead at the end of the first.

The inning that broke things open for N.C. A&T was six-run third. The biggest blows of the inning came on Sylvia Felder single down the left field line that scored Chaola Simmons and Veney, and a White triple that cleared the bases, scoring Felder and Bianca Alsobrook for a 9-0 Aggies lead. In the fourth, Veney made sure there would be no more innings past the fifth with a two-run homer, her fourth of the season. The senior had zero career home runs before the season started.

Sasha Philpot would take care of business on the mound. She pitched four innings, did not walk a batter, struck out four and surrendered just three hits to improve to 4-3 on the season. Amber Shore took the loss for the Rams.

The Aggies continue play Sunday in the invitational as they play in the championship game at noon from the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
