Lillian Bullock had a combined three hits and four RBI on the day, while Jessie Larson hit a three-run home run against UMES and five RBI Sunday afternoon. Philpot, who started her first game of the roundup on Sunday, improved to 12-8 by pitching a complete-game three hitter in which she did not give up an earned run and struck out two. The Bears didn’t get a runner past second base until the fifth inning. Philpot received all the run support she would need in the first inning of the game. Chaola Simmons led off the game with a walk. Simmons stole second and was joined on the base pads by Larson who earned a one-out walk. Tangala Conover loaded the base with her bunt single, setting up a prime RBI opportunity for Bullock. Bullock responded with a double to left field, scoring Simmons and Larson. Adia Dial followed with a two-run RBI double of her own to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead. The Aggies added a run in the second as Larson singled home Yahamma White, who led the inning off with a double. Philpot took over from there. At one point during the game, she retired 11 straight Bear batters. Morgan State got on the board in the fifth as Ingram opened the inning by reaching on an error. Jimenez followed with a single to center field. A fielder’s choice eliminated Ingram off the base pads, but advanced Jimenez to second. A groundout moved Jimenez to third, which set up her score on a wild pitch. Philpot closed the game by retiring seven of the next eight batters she faced. Teammate Adia Dial won the Aggies second game of the day. She was aided by an eight-run Aggies third, highlighted by Larson’s three-run blast. The Aggies are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Elon to face the Elon Phoenix in a 4 p.m., doubleheader. |
