WHITE EARNS ALL-STATE HONOR

White leads the nation in runs scored per game

 GREENSBORO, June 1, 2007 – The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association released its 2007 North Carolina All-State University Division I Softball Team.

 North Carolina A&T freshman shortstop Yahamma White earned one of the 11 spots on the team. She was one of three freshmen to make the team. White (Lancaster, S.C., Lancaster High School) helped the Aggies to only the school’s second 30-win season and the first since 2003. She also helped lead the Aggies to their first MEAC title game in school history.

 White had an outstanding first season with N.C. A&T. She never batted below .400 all season, ending the season with a school record .432 average with eight home runs (four of them were inside the park home runs), 33 RBI and she scored 62 times. White led the conference in batting and she leads the nation in runs scored per game (1.27). Nationally, she ranks 17th in batting average.

 White earned first-team All-MEAC honors in May and her performance in the 2007 MEAC Softball Tournament earned her all-tournament honors. At one point this season, White’s batting average reached as high as .474 this season. She missed 11 games during the season to recover from a hamstring injury.

 Despite the injury, she still led the MEAC in runs scored and hits. She also had a top-50 ranking in the country in slugging percentage (.704) and doubles per game (0.29). She was one of five freshman infield starters for the Aggies in 2007.
