Somehow the Bethune-Cookman softball team figured out to score against North Carolina A&T’s freshman star pitcher Jennifer Luper. Once the Wildcats got to Luper, they kept going as they knocked off the Aggies 10-2 Saturday afternoon at Sunnyland Park.

Luper came into the game having won her last eight decisions. Over those eight decisions she recorded a 0.73 ERA. On Friday, the Wildcats got to her early and then late. They scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Wildcats held a 4-1 lead going into the Aggies fifth. N.C. A&T would inch closer thanks to a lead-off double by Channing Statham. Conover followed by hitting a two-out double to center filed to score Statham to move the Aggies to within two.

The Wildcats, however, put the game away in the fifth and sixth. Holly Bussey hit a RBI double to right field to score Brandi Holley for a 5-2. Christina Trimble followed by hitting a two-run homer off of Luper to give the Aggies a 7-2 advantage. The Wildcats ended the game in the sixth with three more runs to enact the 8-run mercy rule.

The Aggies (23-14-1, 5-2 MEAC) dropped two games behind the Wildcats in the MEAC standings. Luper fell to 15-4 on the season. The Wildcats improved to 17-30 overall and 7-0 in the MEAC.
