Luper gave up just one run in 11 innings last week GREENSBORO, April 9, 2008 – North Carolina A&T freshman Jennifer Luper is proving stingy is not necessarily a bad thing. The softball pitcher out of Fort Mill, S.C., was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week a week after being named MEAC Rookie of the Week. Luper earned the honor by going 2-0 during the week of March 31-April 6. She only gave up one run in 11 innings pitched and she has only given up one earned run over her last 23 innings pitched. For the week, she had a miniscule 0.64 ERA. What might be more amazing about Luper’s week is how quickly she finished off opponents. During the week, Luper faced just 48 batters while throwing only 174 pitches – 118 of them strikes – in 11 innings pitched. Luper also struck out eight batters during the week. Luper has won her last four decisions and is 11-3 on the season with a 2.70 ERA. She has struck out 60 batters and walked just 18 in 98.2 innings. |
