The North Carolina A&T softball team scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to rally and beat Winston-Salem State 10-8 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader played at South Park Field. The Aggies won their seventh straight game by defeating the Rams 8-2 in the second game.

Ryanne Hill led the Aggies by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman Ashley Carter and junior Jessie Larson also had two hits and two RBIs.

N.C. A&T trailed 8-3 going into the seventh. Carter started the rally by doubling down the left field line. Hill continued to be a run producer for the Aggies by singling through the right side to score Carter. The Rams then aided the Aggies by walking Tangie Conover. Larson took advantage by singling to left field to score Hill from second to cut the Rams lead to 8-5.

Lillian Bullock loaded the bases by walking. A fielding error allowed the Aggies to get even closer to the Rams as Bianca Alsobrook reached base, and Conover scored from third. N.C. A&T head coach Mamie Jones then turned to Sasha Philpot. Except this time, Jones used Philpot as an offensive weapon instead of an offensive stopper on the mound.

Philpot responded with two-run RBI single to left to tie the game at 8. Carter closed out the Aggies comeback with a two-out, two-run triple to score Alsobrook and pinch runner Daniell Nguyen to give the Aggies a two-run lead.

Starter Jennifer Luper settled in after going through two tough innings in the fourth and fifth innings. Luper retired the Rams in order to in the seventh to improve to 10-6 on the season.

The Aggies had another late-inning surge in the second game. And once again, an Aggies pitcher contributed with a big hit. Luper hit a run-scoring triple in the seventh to help the Aggies score three runs in the inning to give Philpot a big lead going into the Rams home half of the seventh. After giving up a lead-off walk, Philpot retired the next three batters she faced to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Yahamma White led the Aggies offensively by going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hill and Alsobrook had two hits apiece and Bullock knocked in two runs. The Aggies improved to 17-11 on the season and will conclude their three-game series against Winston-Salem State Sunday at noon.
