LUPER LEADS AGGIES TO VICTORY

Box Score
GREENSBORO, February 27, 2009 – Jennifer Luper pitched five innings of shutout softball to lead the North Carolina A&T softball team to a 2-0 win over Hampton Friday afternoon during the N.C. A&T Softball Invitational at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

The game ended five innings because of darkness. In the earlier games, Coppin State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore and Hampton defeated Coppin State. All the remaining games of the invitational were cancelled due to inclement weather.

Luper, who improved to 3-2 on the season, struck out seven and surrendered just two hits. Luper didn’t get any offensive help until the top of the 5th as the Aggies faced All-MEAC pitcher Amanda Black.

Despite playing in their home facility, the Aggies were deemed the visiting team because of a coin toss in the tournament format.

They opened their half of the 5th with a lead-off single by Bianca Alsobrook. Britney Reddick followed with a walk. When Yahamma White laid down a successful bunt, the Aggies loaded the bases. With one out, Ryanne White hit a grounder to third that was bobbled.

It allowed Alsobrook to score to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. With runners on third and second, Tangala Conover hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center to score Reddick.

Luper retired the Pirates in order to end the game. The Aggies improved to 5-4 on the season. They play Appalachian State Tuesday afternoon at 2 from the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
