GREENSBORO, April 23, 2009 –
The North Carolina A&T softball made a late-season change to its schedule by inviting the ACC’s Virginia Tech Hokies to the Lady Aggies Softball Complex on Thursday.

It was a true test for an Aggies team hoping to advance to the NCAA regionals this season. The Hokies used solid pitching to beat the Aggies 9-0 and 11-2 in doubleheader action. Most of the strong pitching came from Kenzie Roark, who pitched a complete-game one-hitter in the first game. In the second game, she entered the game in relief to earn the win.

The Aggies will take away with them their improved play in the second game. Lillian Bullock went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Game 2, while Bianca Alsobrook added a hit and RBI.

After Virginia Tech took a 1-0 lead in its half of the first, the Aggies quickly answered. Yahamma White earned a walk off of Hokie starter Abbie Rexrode. White, who is perfect in stealing bases this season, swiped her 15th base of the season to move into scoring position. A Virginia Tech error moved to White to third and allowed freshman Ashley Carter to reach first.

Another Hokie error helped Jessie Larson reach first, while White scored to tie the game at 1. A Bullock single in the fourth would start another Aggies rally. Bullock moved herself into scoring position by stealing second. She later moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Danielle Nguyen. Alsobrook gave the Aggies their first lead of the day at 2-1 with a RBI double to center field as the Aggies.

A RBI sacrifice fly to left field by Virginia Tech’s Jessica Everhart tied the game at 2 in the fifth. After tying the game, the Hokies turned Roark to put down the Aggies in order in the bottom of the fifth. Thanks to three straight doubles and a home run after there was already two outs in the Hokies’ half of the sixth, Virginia Tech scored nine runs to break the game open.

The Aggies will try to rebound this weekend when they face Norfolk State in a three-game conference series in Virginia. The Aggies dropped to 19-17 on the season.
