HILL EARNS SECOND POTW HONOR

Hill earns second weekly honor

GREENSBORO, April 21, 2009 – History has a knack for repeating itself. In the last 17 games the North Carolina A&T softball played against city rival UNC Greensboro, it came out on the short end.

So when sophomore left fielder Ryanne Hill came to the plate Thursday afternoon with a runner at third and the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, it stood to reason that the Spartans would still find some way to defeat N.C. A&T.

Yet, not even trends can slow down Hill this season. Hill hit the game-winning single, ended the 17-game losing streak to UNCG and for her efforts earned another MEAC Player of the Week accolade. Hill’s player of the week recognition marks the first time in the program’s history that a player has earned the honor in consecutive weeks.

For the week, Hill went 4-for-7 with three RBIs and a run scored. On the season, Hill is batting .402 with five home runs and 39 RBIs. She leads the conference in RBIs and ranks 16th nationally. Hill’s 11 doubles ranks her 24th nationally in doubles per game. Hill has seen her batting average soar to as high as .427 this season.

Hill will get a tremendous test on Thursday when she and her Aggie teammates face Virginia Tech at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Game time is 2 p.m., and it will be a scheduled doubleheader. The Aggies have earned the MEAC Player of the Week honor three times this season. Hill has won it twice, and Tangie Conover has been awarded the honor once.
