JENNINGS NAMED SOFTBALL ASSISTANT

Jennings is only one of two Vol rookies to win 20 games

GREENSBORO, N.C., November 13, 2008 – North Carolina A&T head softball coach Mamie Jones has announced the hiring of Stacey Jennings as her new assistant softball coach.

“Stacey had a dynamic collegiate career, so she will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the program when coaching our players,’’ said Jones. “I’m very happy to have her on my staff.”

Jennings started her career at the University of Tennessee where she lettered for three seasons as a pitcher and outfielder. She had a career 34-21 record as a Lady Volunteer pitcher. As a batter, she batted .279 with 14 home runs and 88 RBI during her Vol career.

Jennings was named a team captain before the 2005 season. During that same season, she helped Tennessee win a school-record 67 games and earn a third-place finish at the Women’s College World Series. As a freshman, she was the first Lady Vol to throw a perfect game when she sat down all 21 UNLV batters. She is also only one of two Vols to win 20 games as a rookie.

During the same season, Jennings also hit .307 with 40 RBI, 10 home runs and nine doubles while starting in the outfield 31 times. For her efforts that season, she earned National Player of the Week.

Jennings transferred to the University of Maryland in 2006, and finished out her career during the 2007 season. She graduated from Maryland in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.
