THREE AGGIES EARN NATIONAL HONORS

GREENSBORO, November 29, 2006 Three North Carolina A&T softball players were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association scholar athletes for the 2005-2006 academic year. Among those players are two returning players to head coach Mamie Jones’ 2007 softball team, and one player who graduated in May.

Renecia Lovelace, Adia Dial and Britney Hodges all acquired GPA’s of a least 3.5 for the year to qualify for the honors. As a team, the Aggies softball team finished with a GPA of 3.051. Dial and Hodges will suit for Jones this season, while Lovelace earned her degree in fashion merchandising and design in May after compiling a 3.78 GPA over four years. Lovelace continues to collect awards after earning her degree, however.

In July, she was named the MEAC’s inaugural Woman of the Year, an award designed to highlight the academic, athletic and service and leadership accomplishments of female athletes. Lovelace has been named a scholar athlete by the NFCA for three straight years.

Dial is a senior nursing major out of Riverside, Calif. She led the Aggies in bating last year with a .349 average in 53 games. She has also served as one of the Aggies starting pitchers for the last three seasons.

Hodges is a sophomore out of Raleigh, N.C. In her first season as an Aggie, she played in33 games with 26 starts. The NFCA is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.
