Geiger goes 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored in final home game

GREENSBORO, N.C., April 23, 2005 – N.C. A&T picked the right time to show that they are prepared for the rigors of the upcoming MEAC Softball Tournament. Appropriately on Senior Day, Lorraine Geiger went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored three times to lead the Lady Aggies to a doubleheader sweep of MEAC rival S.C. State at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

 The Lady Aggies broke a scoreless tie in game one with a three-run fourth inning off losing pitcher Donisha Johnson (4-12). Pinch runner Renecia Lovelace scored off of a throwing error for the first run. Latronda Anderson added an RBI groundout, and Sylvia Felder hit an RBI single to put the N.C. A&T ahead 3-0.

 Anderson (7-12) did the rest with her arm. She allowed one earned run in a complete-game one hitter in which she also struck out seven and walked two. Geiger hit an RBI double in a three-run fifth to put the Bulldogs away.

 In game two, Anderson hit a two-run homer to right in the third inning to give N.C. A&T a 3-0 lead. Tabitha Veney added an RBI, and Christie Davis hit an RBI double to cap a four-run fourth. Geiger ended the game with a sacrifice fly to drive home Chaola Simmons with the final tally of the regular season.

 Adia Dial (4-11) pitched a five inning no-hitter, facing just 17 batters, two above the minimum. She struck out one and walked two. Dial helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

 Davis went 3-for-3 with three singles, and Anderson finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Simmons added two hits, including a triple.

 N.C. A&T will begin play at the MEAC Tournament on Thursday, Apr. 28, at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
