Lady Aggies finish season with 14 wins

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA., APRIL 29, 2005 – Hampton starter Kristine Minter pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout as the Lady Pirates eliminated N.C. A&T from the 2005 MEAC Softball Tournament with a 5-0 win.

Minter (19-9) allowed only two Lady Aggies to reach third on Friday. She endured her toughest predicament in the top of the fourth when she hit the first two batters – Lorraine Geiger and Tabitha Veney – who came to the plate.

Sibol Loftin then hit into a force out at second, which allowed pinch runner Jessica Cooper to reach third and Loftin to reach first on a fielder’s choice. The threat ended when Latronda Anderson flew out to left, and Cooper was caught between third and home.

Hampton left fielder Angela Balser riffled the ball over to third to get the force out at third. From there, the Lady Pirates (27-17) took over the game with their bats.

In the home half of the fourth, Kera Mathes lifted an Adia Dial pitch over the center field fence to give the Lady Pirates a 2-0 lead. A three-run fifth in which the first four Lady Pirates reached base put the Lady Aggies away for good.

Camille Whittaker’s RBI double put Hampton up 3-0 and ended the afternoon for Lady Aggies starter Dial (4-12). Minter and Balser added RBI in the inning off of Anderson.

Whittaker went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Brittany Davis added three hits, and Maggie Wolfe had a hit, run scored and RBI for the Lady Pirates.

N.C. A&T season ends at 14-29 and 6-10 in the MEAC. Hampton (27-17) plays Delaware State Saturday afternoon at 12:30 in another elimination game
