Wright contributes
27 points in meet Wright, who has compiled seven wins this season and 22 for her career, scored 13 points individually and 14 points in relay races. Wright accomplished all of this while swimming on a team with just seven swimmers. She beat Gardner-Webb’s Mallory Blessing by six tenths of a second to earn five points in the 400-yard breaststroke. “Gia is so great for this program and the athletics program in general,’’ said head coach Shawn Hendrix. “She swims so hard every meet. She really gives it all she has in every race and you love that in an athlete.” Wright also won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.34. She finished second in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:07.77. She teamed with Vinetae Wynn, Donielle Campbell and Jewel Wright to win the 200-yard medley relay. Gia and Jewel Wright, Wynn and Campbell also won the 200-yard freestyle relay. Wright was not the only strong Aggie against the Bulldogs. Wynn was also a big scorer. Wynn won the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke. Wynn’s 24-point total was second to Wright’s on the day. The Aggies return to action on Feb. 2 at Noon when they swim in the HBCU Championship from Corbett Sports Center. |
