WRIGHT WINS 100 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY

GREENSBORO, November 15, 2007 Despite being outnumbered 3-1 by North Florida on Thursday, the North Carolina A&T swimming team competed with passion at Corbett Sports Center.

The Aggies competed with seven swimmers after their original roster has been depleted for various personal reasons. But those seven swimmers surrounded head coach Shawn Hendrix and asked about their times, their technique and how they can improve.

“We are small in numbers, but my young ladies practice and compete with spirit, determination and excitement. I couldn’t ask for a better seven young ladies as the ones we have on this team.”

North Florida won most of the events even though results weren’t immediately made available. Senior Gia Wright did finish first in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:05.85. Sophomore Vinetae Wynn and junior Donielle Campbell tied for second in the 50 butterfly with a time of 27.8.

“I think we did well considering every time our ladies step up to swim they’re competing against a swimmer who hasn’t competed yet. Everyone we faced tonight was fresh, while our ladies had already competed several times. That’s why I say, I’m so proud of how hard we compete.”

On very short rest, the Aggies will travel to Buies Creek to compete in the Campbell University Invitational Friday and Saturday.
