Aggie Swimming

Name Position: Head Swimming Coach Experience Ninth Season at N.C. A&T Education: High Point '94

Shawn Hendrix begins her 10th season coaching swimming and her ninth year coaching the N.C. A&T swimming team. Hendrix has been instrumental in the yearly improvement and overall academic quality of the swimming program since it became one of the 15 varsity sports in 1998. Hendrix believes that college sports can play a great role in a student-athlete's life in terms of providing self-discipline, focusing of goals, motivation, and community service.

Hendrix has already established positive community relations in the Greensboro and surrounding Triad areas, as her swimming teams are active in the community, providing tutorial services to area grade school children, running swimming camps, and even participating in the local Adopt-A-Street Program, as a road sign on the 600 block of Summit Avenue can attest. In addition, the student-athletes have been recognized in two of her three seasons as the athletics department academic team of the year, an award given to the sports team with the highest academic grade point average.

One of her major goals, the renovation of the Corbett Sports Center Natatorium, was completed in the fall of 2003, and over 500 people were on hand to see the first ever swim meet at at Corbett Sports Center. This season, the Lady Aggies will again host the Historically Black College and University Swim Meet, which will feature N.C. A&T, Howard, and Florida A&M.

She also was instrumental in leading the Aggies  into their new conference, the CCSA. As members of the CCSA, the Aggies will be able to cut down on their travel time and the conference championships will be hosted in North Carolina. 

Coach Hendrix came to N.C. A&T from the High Point Area Parks and Recreation Department, where, in addition to running a recreation center, she was the head coach of the city’s Washington Terrace swimming team for two seasons.

Hendrix earned her B.S. degree in Recreation and Physical Education from High Point University in 1994 and is a native of Columbia, S.C. She is a dedicated member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
