PETERSBURG, Va., September 16, 2007 – The North Carolina A&T started its fall season over the weekend by taking two titles at the Dr. Robert Walker Johnson Tournament at Virginia State University. Freshman Winnie Quick, a Dudley High School product, started her N.C. A&T career on a great note by winning the Flight A singles championship. Quick also teamed with senior Tina Ruffin to win the Flight A doubles title. The Aggies came in second overall as a team. The Aggies came in second as a team behind champion Morgan State. “Our ladies did a great job up there,’’ said N.C. A&T women’s tennis coach Andy Smith. “Winnie will add so much to our team this year, we are really excited about her and we are excited about the improvements the ladies have made.” Quick won four matches on Saturday to claim the title, while she also played and won three times in doubles play to win the doubles title. Portia Martin and Danielle McCaskill also performed well. They took third place in doubles in Flight B. The Aggies continue play in the fall Sept. 27-30 when they play in the HBCU Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. |
