ALTAMONTE, Fla., February 25, 2007 – First-year North Carolina A&T women’s coach Andy Smith’s aim this season was for his youthful team to take baby steps. One of those steps, he wanted them to make was to be among the top eight teams in the MEAC, which would earn them entry into the MEAC Tournament. Smith and his Aggies team took a giant step toward that goal by going 2-3 at the MEAC Roundup in Altamonte, Fla., over the weekend. The Aggies defeated Delaware State and Maryland-Eastern Shore, while losing to Howard, Coppin State and Morgan State. Freshman Jaymee Jones led the way for the Aggies by going 3-2. She won the Aggies only individual match against Coppin State with a thrilling two-set win over Nina Sebescen. She won the first two sets 6-3 and took the tiebreaker 11-9. She teamed with junior Tareka Palmer to win two doubles matches in the roundup. The Aggies are 3-9 on the season and 2-3 in the MEAC.
